Dear Bellamy Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the second quarter. This means colder weather, shorter days, and student-led conferences. This year we will be holding conferences on Wednesday, November 8th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Thursday, November 9th from 7:30 am to 11:00 am. These time periods will be broken into 30 minute time slots.  We will have several conferences running simultaneously. You can choose your time slot by going to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e4ea8ae2eabfe3-student and picking the time that works best.

The focus of a student led conference is to allow your child to demonstrate his/her academic accomplishments.  As a parent, you can provide encouragement and help your student set goals for the remainder of the year.  You will also have the opportunity to display a positive interest in your student’s learning. This conference will allow you to really see what is going on in your student’s school life and how they are handling the academic rigor of seventh grade.  The conference is a great time to ask the age old question, “What did you do at school?” and not get the standard, “nothing” as an answer.

Some of our goals for this conference are:

  • Help parents understand what is taking place in the classroom

  • Enable students to accept ownership of learning and behavior

  • Enhance students’ organizational and leadership skills

  • Give parents and students an opportunity to set individual academic goals

Students will be working very hard to prepare for these conferences. Your student will be in charge of conducting the conference, and it is important to honor your student’s commitment to that role.  One teacher representative will be present for clarification or facilitation as necessary.  If there is a specific teacher you want to meet with or content area you are concerned about, please email that teacher directly. That teacher will be sure to find you during your scheduled conference time. We look forward to seeing you all on November 8th or 9th!

Sincerely,

The 7 Bellamy Teachers
